In Bangladesh, there are many airports situated in many important places. Hazrat ShahJalal International Airport is the countries biggest airport till now. This airport is located in Kurmitola, 17 KM north of Dhaka City. The total area of this airport is 1981 acres (802 Hectares). This airport operated maintains by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB). From this airport, the operations started in 1980.
This airport was formerly known as Dacca International Airport and later as Zia International Airport. Later, this airport names Hazrat ShahJalal International airport by the name of Shah Jalal, one of the most respected Sufi saints of Bangladesh. This airport IATA code is “DAC,” and the ICAO code is “VGHS.”
During the Second World War in 1941, the British government built a landing strip at Kurmitola several kilometers north of Tejgaon as a spare landing strip for the Tejgaon Airport. Tejgaon Airport became the first civilian airport after the creation of Pakistan. The Pakistan Government took a project in 1966 to construct a new airport, and the present site north of Kurmitola was selected.
The Bangladeshi government restarted the works of this airport after the independence of Bangladesh. The Government of Bangladesh decided to make the airport countries largest international airport. As the new consultant of this airport, the government has appointed Aéroports de Paris of France. This airport began operations in 1980.

Terminal 1 and 2
This airport entirely consists of three major terminals. Among these, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are for international flights. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are located in the same building, T1, located on the ground floor, and is used as the international arrivals hall, and T2 is located on the upper floor, and is used as the international departures hall. A third adjacent terminal building is located to the left of the international terminals known as the Domestic Terminal, and it is used for domestic flights.
Terminal 3
There is a third international terminal at this airport. This terminal is under construction; it is expected to be operational in 2022.
VIP terminal
On the right side of international terminals, there is a VIP terminal building located. This terminal is located only 200 meters far from the main gate.
